- The black soil is made of fine particle known as clay. These clayey material has very good capacity to hold moisture.
- Black soil not only have water retaining capacity but also they are rich in soil nutrients such as magnesium, potash, lime etc.
- Clay particles are so fine and tiny , and porous (small pores) which enables water to move slowly and retain it for longer duration.
- On contrast sandy soil have least water retentive capacity.
