Answer:

Dr. Ambedkar was the champion of emancipation of downtrodden.

He faced several hardships during his childhood yet was studious.

He pursued higher studies and was not involved in activities other than studies. He worked really hard and was favourite student of his professors.

Despite being highly educated, he was ill treated because he belonged to “lower” caste by the accident of his birth.

Those were the times when independence movement was in full swing. Gandhiji was no doubt the face of the movement. There came the question of dalit emancipation and involvement of masses in independence struggle.

There was difference in approaches of Gandhiji and Babasaheb on the question of caste.

G: Believed in caste system but wanted the end of discrimination based on caste. He opined caste division is synonymous to division of labour and that whatever one does as a livelihood should do it as a service to God ( he equated learning and teaching of Brahmins, trade of vaishyas, rule of Kshatriyas to that of hard labour, slavery, manual scavenging of the service class). and

A: Believed that caste in itself is the means for discrimination and he wanted annihilation of caste to end discrimination.

G: A staunch Hindu and was of the opinion that true Hinduism did not patronise discrimination

A: Believed as long as there is a hegemony of “upper” castes, “lower” castes cannot go high in ladder. He actually advocated for the end of Hinduism that sanctioned caste based discrimination.

G: Abstained from round table conference convened for discussing recommendations of Simon commission.

A: Participated in the conference and briefed British the plight of dalits in British India.

The British accepted for a separate representation ( on the lines of muslim, Christian, Anglo indian representation) for dalits.

Ambedkar felt that this move would emancipate dalits but Gandhiji felt that this would further fracture the nation. He underwent fast unto death and exerted pressure on Ambedkar to go back on the decision.

Poona pact was signed and reservation in constituencies was introduced instead of reserved constituencies.

Both were tallest leaders and their criticism was ideological but not personal. There were ideological battles between them but never mudslinging. Both respected each other for the respective cause that they've been fighting for.

Babasaheb was born a Hindu, lived like a Hindu despite all the discrimination he faced and converted into Buddhism anticipating that the move may inspire millions of his followers to live life with self respect.

Gandhiji was born a Hindu, lived life like a staunch Hindu, fought for independence of India and emancipation of the downtrodden and ultimately was assassinated by a Hindu lunatic.

hope it helps you
