In addition to the reasons given by Benjamin Edge, one problem with broadcasting is that the seeds end up at different levels in the soil, and therefore they germinate, grow and ripen at different times from each other.

This is so because while broadcasting :

1. The seeds may be unevenly distributed in the soil. They can be too close or too far away. This can cause lack and wastage of nutrients in the soil respectively.

2. The seed can be too deep in the soil or the seed may be right on the surface of the soil. Because it is on the surface of the soil there are chances that birds may eat them.
