in olden times only higher class people were allowed to learn Sanskrit
The lower castes or commoners were not allowed to learn it
Buddhism has the language 'pali'
it was allowed to be learnt by lower castes
The people learned and followed the religion
as it was understood by them
to increase the importance of the brahmins they said to follow or do many rituals
Buddhism didn't have many rituals
we can also say Buddhism was in the budget of commoners
hope it helps
