Water is not used for extinguishing petrol fire because if we use water , the petrol will float on the water and the fire , rather than extinguishing will spread to more areas, So we should never use water for extinguishing petrol and oil fires. ... Water is a liquid and also a good conductor of electricity. Being a liquid it has ions which are free (less than gases).
So u should not use water for extinguishing fire caused by electricity, u might get an electric shock due to it.
