Why cannot be vectors added algebraically?

Answer:

Vectors can't be added algebraically because, apart from magnitude, they also have direction. If, however, we resolve the vectors along mutually perpendicular axes, all the components along the same axis can be added algebraically since all of them have the same (or exactly opposite) directions.
