We can't see our surrounding clearly when we enter in a darken cinema hall because when we were in open place the pupil of our eyes had grown small to prevent more light from entering the eyes. It takes time to adjust to the dark.

the main reason behind the visibility is light and it's very nature called reflection. light is a energy which gives us the senstiation of visibility In this universe .without light we will not be able to see anything. as light falls on an object light will be reflected by an object, such as as walls. and the light enters our eyes, we see the object .as we enter a dark room we can not see anything because there is no light so no reflection. after reflection light bounces off objects and enters into our eyes through the pupil. on the basis of amount of light, the iris adjusts the size of the pupil to let more or less light in. .
hope it helped you.
