If people come into a darkened movie theater they are constantly tripping and stumbling over their seats on the way in.
- However, after being in the theater for a while, you adjust to the lower light level of the theater, and it becomes very easy to see your way around.
- This Phenomenon is called a Dark Adaption.
- The human retina can perform its light detection function in an astounding range of light intensities, from bright sunlight to dim starlight, by relying on two types of light sensitive cells, as Rods and Cones.
- Rods are more sensitive to light and so take longer to fully adapt to the change in light.
- Cones take approximately 9"10 minutes to adapt to the dark.
