It gives you an internal volume boot space in cars is also measured in liters.

Cubic meters would be more appropriate for a walk in fridge freezer or van capacity

1,000liters per cubic meter. A 500 liter fridge would be 0.5 cubic meter and a 80liter camping fridge would be .08 cubic meter not very impressive sounding numbers

Refrigerator is not a cooling device,(or its not similar to A.C ) Basically Refrigerator  transfers heat from the inside of the fridge to its external environment so that the inside of the fridge is cooled to a temperature below the ambient temperature of the room.
Or In simple language it throws inside heat to outside.
And the capacity of refrigerator means volume of space available inside the fridge which is to be cooled or in other words we can also say the amount of space available inside the refrigerator.

Why capacity of refrigerator is measured in liters:

We usually measured capacity of refrigerator in liters because refrigerators are spacious inside; the space is called volume.

• It is not easy to find the volume of unevenly shaped solids or objects. Space (Volume) inside a car or a refrigerator is not a simply calculable one. That’s why we use liters or even cubic meters for measuring such spaces.
