Hi friend
_______
Carbon can make millions of compounds with its two properties
1) Catenation(self-linking property)
2)tetravalent nature (valiancy=4)
Due to its Catenation property it can link with hydrogen atoms or link with carbon to carbon in chains rings etc.
Due to its tetravalent nature it can form covalent bonds with substances.

carbon makes large compounds due to its property catenation in which carbon bonds with its own atoms continuously to form big molecules...
And also because of its tetravalency which makes carbon bonds covalent.
carbon compounds are organic compounds and normally carbon is the only element that is having more than 500lakh bonds....

hope this helps.....
