why carbon cannot form ionic bonds?

As carbon can only share its 4 valence electrons with other elements. It can't donate or accept any electron to form the electronic confirmation. In order to create ionic bonds elements either need to donate or accept its electrons to achieve the octet.

because there outermost shell have a 4 electrons
