Most of the carnivorous plants grow in acidic soils which are poor in nutrient value.  In order to survive these plants must get some nutrients from other plants or organisms.  So they catch small animals or insects by setting a trap for them.  By digesting these insects the carnivorous plants get nitrogen for survival and growth.  Example - nepenthes, Darlington etc.
