Why caterpillar need to shed their skin as the grow bigger but we humans donot

Since the outer skin of caterpillar is calcareous it's non living just like our nails and hair. The skin can't grow on its own whom the caterpillar is growing naturally. Hence the skin has to be shed so that new skin covers entire body after growth.
