\bold{CCl_4} or pyrene is a saturated chlorinated carbon compound that is also called as carbon tetrachloride.

It is a heavy non-combustible hydrocarbon therefore it is used in fire extinguishers for small fires.

The main disadvantage of this chemical compound as fire extinguishers is that after combustion it releases toxic gases such as phosgene and of hydrogen chloride.

Therefore it cannot be used for large scale but can be used for small fire due to its non-combustible nature.
