Why certain compunds are called hydrocarbons?????

Certain compounds have only carbon and hydrogen as their constituents and no other elements are present.These are known as hydrocarbons.These have wide industrial applications like petroleum,lpg etc.

Compound are called hydrocarbons because they contain hydrogen and carbon atom. CnH2n+2=alkanes.
