Why chlorine has higher electron affinity value

" fluorine, through higher than chlorine in the periodic table, has very small atomic size. this make the fluoride anion so formed unstable ( high reactive) due to a very high charge /mass ratio.... as a result, chlorine has an electron affinity less than of chlorine."
