chlroform ChCl3 drug but it affects the central nervous system (brain), liver, and kidneys after a person breathes air or drinks liquids that contain large amounts of chloroform. Chloroform was used as an anesthetic during surgery for many years before its harmful effects on the liver and kidneys

Phenol/Chloroform – This is a mixture of buffer-saturated phenol and chloroform, usually close to 1:1 for DNA purification with other ratios sometimes used for RNA purification. Isoamyl alcohol is sometimes included as an anti-foaming agent, but is generally thought to be an inert and optional addition.
