The electronic config. of Chromium(24) is should be [Ar] 3d^4 4s^2.
But at this stage the Chromium will be unstable as one electron the d subshell is not completed. To become stable one 4s^2 electron jumps to the 3d subshell. And the 3dsubshell becomes half filled electrons. And this half filled electrons helps to attain stability. Thus the new electronic config. becomes [Ar] 3d^5 4s^1. Thus the Chromium atom get extrastability. And thus Chromium atom becomes stable.
