Why cold war never converted into a hot war

So basically, the hot war indicates the full fledged war between countries. Here weapons are used and lives are lost. After world war 2 and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The two superpowers realised the extent of harm it could cause and hence decided not to have a full fledged war, but settle the matter with discussions and debates and conflicts. As a full fledged war would do no good to them and both the sides would be so badly destructed that one could not be declared the winner. The logic of deterrence also comes in play here. Hence it never converted into a hot war. I hope this helps.

Cold war remain cold and did not turn hot due to "LOGIC OF DETERRENCE". It prevents countries from mutual destruction that causes war. As a result of logic of deterrence, countries became rational and responsible actors.
