The sun is made up of seven different colours, when the sunlight enters the earth's atmosphere it have to passes from different particles present in the atmosphere. From the seven colours of the sun blue light have shortest wavelength so, the fine particles of atmosphere scatter the blue colour more strongly so, that's why the clear sky looks blue.

The Short Answer: Gases and particles in Earth's atmosphere scatter sunlight in all directions. Blue light is scattered more than other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time.
