Comets are called time keepers because they too have a fixed period of revolution

Explanation:

Comets are also said to revolve around the sun in a orbit as the planets do and they also have a fixed period of the revolution. That is the reason why they are said to be the time keepers.

For Example: The period of revolution of Halley's comet is 76 years. now if we know the revolution time of the comet we can say that Halley's comet is 76 years old,but if we did not have any knowledge regarding the same we won't be able to identify its age.

Comets are called timekeepers:

  • Comets are small icy bodies in solar system.
  • They have eccentric elliptical orbits, so their orbital period is higher. It depends on the origination of the comet.
  • Hyperbolic comets comes into solar system once and gets lost into interstellar space.
  • Jupiter-family comets have orbital period of less than 20 years (short period) and Comet McNaught have orbital period of roughly 92,600-year (long period).
  • They orbit around sun because of galactic tides and passing stars.
  • Since, they orbit and we can see them in certain time, they are called as timekeepers.
