because copper is a good conductor of electricity .
it is cheaper than other metals
it shows the property of ductility due to which the metals can be drawn into thin wires

copper is used in electric wires because of the following reasons
----------------------------------
1)it is available in abundant on earth
2)it is a very good conductor of electricity
3)very less current gets wasted as the resistance is very low
4)it is not very costly as compared to silver
