Why crude common salt becomes damp on keeping in air because?

It is highly hygroscopic(1) and absorbs moisture from air. Because of the presence of MgCl2 in sodium chloride(common/table salt), the latter becomes wet. ... This means that salt is hygroscopic, so it absorbs both liquid water and water vapor present in air.
