Why current make filament hot but slightly warm the connection wire

The filament has higher resistance than the wire leading to the bulb which is substantially higher gauge and a better conductor. The resistance of the filament is much greater than copper conductors moving the current. As the filament heats up it's resistance gets even greater. The opposition to current creates heat.
