Cyclone Fani was diverted to West Bengal because it was weakened after entering coastal odisha.

EXPLANATION:

     Cyclone Fani was the strongest cyclone which hit Odisha in April 2019. The cyclone originated near the equator and travelled a long sea distance to hit Odisha making it much more strong and severe than any other cyclone.

    After making the landfall in Odisha, the cyclone moved to north-northeastwards and entered West Bengal. It is because, the cyclone weakened after entering Odisha and transformed from being extremely severe to very severe one. The cyclone weakened because over Odisha, it lost the moisture and heat sources it gathered earlier.
