d-block elements are good catalyst because -

  • The atoms of d-block elements can gain and re-emit wide range of energy due to the presence of unpaired electrons in the incompletely filled d-orbitals, and hence these elements can provide the required activation energy to carry out a chemical reaction.
  • The presence of d-electrons leads to the formation of various types of unstable intermediate compounds by reacting at different oxidation states. These intermediates provide a new path with lower activation energy.
