Dam become main cause of flood because:
When there is heavy rain and the water level rises then more amount of water is to be released from the dams which will increase the water levels of rivers. So this causes flooding in the downstream of the dam.
Sometimes, too much water held up in the dam can cause it to break and overflow the area.
Excess water can also be intentionally released from the dam to prevent it from breaking and that can also cause floods.
