Diamond is an allotrope of carbon.
In diamond each carbon atom is bonded to four other carbon atom by single covalent bond. It exist in 3D network of strong covalent bond. This make diamond as extremely hard material with very high melting point.(4000K)
Therefore diamond is the hardest natural occurring substance.
