The decision to effect the Partition of Bengal (Bengali: বঙ্গভঙ্গ) was announced on 19 July 1905 by the Viceroy of India, Curzon. The partition took place on 16 October 1905 and separated the largely Muslim eastern areas from the largely Hindu western areas.

here is your ans.....

according to the British government ,Bengal was such a large state that it is difficult to manage it with a single authority .thus, Lord Curzon divided Bengal into two parts to improve its administration .but according to the historians ,the main reason behind the partition of Bengal was to break the unity of Hindus and Muslims .there was majority of Muslims in East Bengal and that of Hindus in West Bengal .therefore Lord Curzon divided Bengal so that the Hindus and Muslims never remain United .
