  • Alauddin Khilji introduced the market system in which he fixed the prices of all the essential commodities. This was done for the welfare of the people. For the extension of the empire Alauddin Khilji need a long standing army and it was not possible to pay a good amount of salary to the army. So, he decided to fixed the rate of all the essential commodities. There were different kinds of markets such as, Mandi- the grain market, Serai-i- Adl - market for finished and imported goods and there was markets for slaves and markets.

Alauddin Khilji kept a tab on the costs of prices by setting up a component to control the stock of food grains from villages, enlisting grain shippers (known as karwanis or banjaras), who moved food grains from towns to Delhi.
