Why did America's position as the sole superpower produce mixed reactions?

Right now, it has a lot to do with the Trump administration. Trump's policies have often been called "discriminative" and "racist" and Special Counsel Mueller's probe is also a big negative for him. But other than that, the main reason is that other nations also wish to carry out trade and have a GDP as large as that of Uncle Sam. Moreover, after Yeltsin, Putin has made little to no efforts to establish concrete cooperative policies or agreements with the West, let alone the USA.
