why did Britain need Indigo what causes Britain to encourage it cultivation in India

Britain needed indigo because it produced a rich blue after dyeing the clothes. the existing markets like america and west indies collapsed. 
Britain wanted a new market to cultivate indigo to fullfill its demand in britain so it started cultivation in Indai, as indian climatic conditions were favourable for indigo cultivation.

It was the industrialization period going in the Britain. There were a lot of clothes mill set up over there so they needed ink to colour their clothes. Cultivation of indigo made soil infertile so they did not want to cultivate it on their land. This the reason why English people forced Indians to grow indigo on their land so to get the raw material for their industry at cheap rates.

Also they made india a market for their finished goods. They took the indigo at less price and sold the clothes to us at a very high price.
