he said this because cassius was afraid that antony will get all the crowd his side then brutus said that i will go first and give a speech so that people will be on our side.

Brutus said, "what Antony shall speak, I will protest." He said this to Cassius when Cassius felt anxious that Anthony will try to accumulate the crowd towards him in the favor of Julius Caesar. Brutus made Cassius assure that if Anthony will ever do such thing, he will be standing to oppose to whatever he would be saying. Also, he would make the people of Rome stand with him and support the death of ambitious Julius Caesar.
