People in this type of government decide the policy initiatives directly. The first and most prominent example of Direct or Pure Democracy comes from the ancient Greek City- state and particularly from Ancient Athens. Cleisthenes (the lawgiver) introduced reforms in the constitution of Athens in order to establish the rule by people, as the people of the city-state was small.
