Answer:Douglas didn't had very good swimming experiences. He nearly drowned to death when he was pushed into the pool by a bully when he was 12 and in childhood too he was caught by strong tide waves when he went for swimming with his father near the shore. So, he gradually developed fear of H2O. His mother adviced him to learn swimming in YMCA pool to get rid of his fear of H2O and secondly, the pool was safer than others.
