Lord Wellesley was a British colonial administrator who became the Governor General of India in 1798.
His aim was to bring maximum number of states under the British rule.
For this purpose he took many steps like he introduced doctrine of Subsidiary Alliance and carried out outright wars against various Indian states and these wars were the cause of the financial burden during his tenure.
