Why did Einstein write a letter to Franklin Roosevelt?​

Einstein wrote a letter to the 32nd president of United Nation, Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the hope that he would agree to Einstein's favour. Einstein wanted that no nuclear attacks should be done for it would generate a great loss to mankind. But Mr President ignored his letter and his request and finally a nuclear attack over Hiroshima and Nagasaki was done in August, 1945.
