Pentagular was a purely colonial tournament based on the divisive conception of India.
It worked on the principle of Communally divisive competition and died with the end of colonialism.
Mahatma Gandhi was one of the nationalist leaders who emphasized on the unity of Indians.
Therefore he was against the Pentagular.
