BEACAUSE THE EAST INDIA COMPANY HAD IMPOSED TAX ON SALT.

GANDHIJI THOUGHT THAT SALT WAS SOMETHING CONSUMED BY THE RICH AND POOR ALIKE AND IMPOSING A TAX ON IT SHOWED THE MOST CRUEL FACE OF THE EAST INDIA COMPANY.
