Gandhiji launched Rowlatt satyagrah against the proposed Rowlett act passed in 1919 by the government because:

It allowed the detention of political leaders without any trial for three years. It means that the british government can arrest any indian leader without any proof of crime.

It gave enormous powers to the government and no power to the leaders.

This law was hurriedly passed even after the united opposition by the indians and other indian leaders.

Gandhi ji wanted to pass a satyagrah against such unjust laws, which was to be started by a hartal on 6th April (1991)
