Gandhiji wrote a letter to viceroy Irwin stating 11 demands. some were common and some were particular and most important was demand of removing salt tax. salt was something used by both rich and poor. this letter was kind of ultimatum. but viceroy Irwin denied this and Gandhiji started salt March or dandi March. this March started from Sabarmati ashram to gujrat coastal town dandi. he was followed by his trusted 78 followers. it was over 240 miles. volunteers walked for 24 days, 10 days a mile. they reached dandi and violated salt law
