why did Gandhiji want to support khilafat movement

this is because the british gave a harshy treat towards the turkish sultanate also known as khalifa . this enraged the indian muslims because they wanted khalifa to take control over the muslim sacred place over esterwhile ottoman empire. the members of the khalifat agitation are muhammed ali and shaukat ali. mahatma gandhi also supported it
