George had assumed that the shirt that had fallen into the river belonged to Jim; so he began laughing loudly. However, when Jim took the shirt in his hand he realized, the shirt actually belonged to George. So, he let it flow along in the river water and began laughing. George, still laughing asked Jim why he had let the shirt flow in the river. Jim, now laughing very loudly replied that the shirt was not his, but rather of George's. This changed George's laughter into anger.

The excerpt has been taken from the lesson 'Three Men in a Boat', written by Jerome K. Jerome.
When the author 'J' was getting dressed up in his boat when his shirt fell into the water. This made J very angry especially because George started laughing out loudly. When J removed the shirt, he realized that it was not his shirt but it was George's shirt, which he had mistaken for his shirt. Humour struck J and he also burst out into laughter. He was getting amused seeing George's wet shirt and George laughing loudly. J let the shirt go in the water. When George asked him why he is not getting it out, J says that it is George's shirt and not his.
The expression on George's face turned from the funny laughing to severe anger instantly.
