Harshavardhana shifted his capital because -

• The Harshavardhana shifted his capital from Thanesar to Kannauj,in the middle of his rule. The reasons behind this capital shifting are very clear.

• The Thanesar is situated at Haryana which is a much more decentralised place for being a capital of such a large empire and that's why he shifted to Kannauj which was much more centralised for his empire.

• Another most big reason was his desire to conquer the eastern India, including the Bengal region. The Kannauj is also situated in the north eastern part of the India which was helpful for ths Harshavardhana for directing his army towards the eastern region.
