Why did helen call the first christmas after miss sullivan's arrival at a great event?

the dirst Christmas after miss Sullivan came to tuscumbia was a great event fot the narrator. Everyone in the family had prepared surprise for her .What pleased her the most was that miss Sullivan and she had preparad surprise for everybody else.
