Bcoz she was tired as she was continually answering the questions in front of the ouija board.

As a ghost, Helen wanted to seek the attention of John. So she appeared in sections. Every time she comes in bits and pieces because she was a ghost and she used this as her style of appearing and disappearing.
As there was nothing very scary or ghostly about her appearance, she gave this effect of appearing in sections.
