they study manuscript bczz

Material preserved in manuscript form is the primary source databank of written material from the middle ages. Manuscripts provide not only the most authentic witnesses to life in the medieval era, but also a record of what aspects of life were considered to be of sufficient importance to immortalise in the medium

While using manuscripts, the historians face a number of difficulties. Manuscripts were written with hand and as a result there were small but significant difference between any two copies. The scribes who copied them introduced changes. As a result historians have to read different manuscript versions of the same text to guess what the authors had originally written.

It is also very important for a historian to study the sources rationally and with an objective approach whiel studying medieval history. Thsi is so because most works were written by aithors who wanted to please the rulers.

Manuscripts provide not only the most authentic witnesses to life in the medieval era, but also a record of what aspects of life were considered to be of sufficient importance to immortalise in the medium.
In an era of only partial literacy, when the transmission of written knowledge was laborious, the value of that knowledge to society can be evaluated by the care and elegance of its recording, or even by the fact that it was recorded at all.
The problem of sources is a serious challenge to the historian in the task of reconstructing the past. The quality of a historical study is determined largely by the manner in which sources are collected and used. Sources are basic in historical research and they are many and varied.

Hope it helped you
