After a prolonged debate in the constituent assembly , finally it was decided to adopt parliamentary form of government.

Parliamentary form of Government is the system of government in which there exists an harmonious relationship between the executive and the legislative departments, and the stability and efficacy of the executive department depend on the legislature .where in presidential form the executive and legislative departments are completely different from each other.

India adopted the Parliamentary form of government because we are been familiar with its working during the British Colonial rule. The type of government that was functioning in India before independence was very much similar to the British model of government. The framers of Indian Constitution were very influenced by the British System. So, the members of the Constituent Assembly decided to adopt this form of government for the independent India.
