Answer:The following are the reasons why India chose to be a secular country:-

1. India has a vast population which celebrates different religions and different cultures.

2. During the time of constitution making, India was going through a turmoil which many times resulted in rifts between different religions (Majorly, Hindus and Muslims). Just to keep the country together, India chose to be secular.

3. Giving equal importance to every religion, keeps our country in harmony. It strengthens the unity of the country.

4. Secularism also upholds the "Rule of Law." It means that no matter what your religion is, you are equal before the law.

5. If India chose to be a Hindu country or a Muslim country, it would have hurt the religious sentiments of other religions, that would've lead to Civil War, like in Sri Lanka. By giving people religious freedom, we have reduced chances of such situations to occur.

India s a country with wide cultural heritage which attracts people from all over the world. Secularism have made us make peace with eachother and set example for other countries to follow. The plain fact is that, Inida cannot survive without secularisim.
