why did india opt for a federal form of government?

India is a land of vivid diversity.
India also had to suffer violent riots at the time of partition.
Also India wanted to make the constituent units realise that they have importance
To accommodate such a diversity and keep the country united India decided to be a federal country.
Moreover, the federal system of India is tilted toward a strong center.
